Advent: The Season Where God Politely Destroys Our Plans
Advent is about waiting.
About watching.
About hoping.
It’s also the annual reminder that God has zero interest in keeping things comfortable.
Mary was not looking for a divine interruption.
Joseph definitely didn’t have “raise the Son of God” on his five-year plan.
The shepherds were minding their own business when heaven showed up and wrecked their evening.
And yet—this is how salvation came.
Which tells us something important:
If God is doing something holy and eternal, it will probably feel inconvenient, unsettling, and a little terrifying.
Welcome to Advent.
New Wine Always Requires New Wineskins (and Nobody Likes That)
At Heritage Church, we believe God is calling us into something new—not because what we’ve done is bad, but because what He’s doing next won’t fit in the old containers.
That’s why we’re launching a new service.
Why worship times are shifting.
Why music equipment is changing.
Why—brace yourselves—new people are going to walk through our doors.
And yes, this is scary.
No one wakes up and says, “You know what I’d love today? Church-wide change.”
But the gospel has never been about our preferences—it’s about faithful obedience.
Let’s Be Honest (Because Advent Is About Truth)
Heritage is a seasoned church.
That’s not an insult—it’s a testimony.
But we don’t have unlimited reserves, endless budgets, or the luxury of staying exactly the same and hoping for different results.
Churches don’t die because God stops working.
They die because people stop moving when He calls.
And Jesus didn’t say, “Stay therefore and preserve what you like.”
He said, “Go and make disciples.”
Advent reminds us that the light of Christ always moves outward.
Preparing Room Costs Something
Advent is about preparing room—for Christ, for hope, for new life.
Preparing room in Bethlehem meant a stable.
Preparing room at Heritage means investment.
Launching new ministry costs money.
Expanding worship takes resources.
Creating space for the not-yet-here requires generosity.
Which is why we’re inviting you to give a year-end offering gift.
Not because the church wants something from you—but because God may want something for you: the joy of participating in something that outlasts us all.
A Deep and Sincere Thank You (No Sarcasm Here)
To those who have already given—thank you.
Your generosity is not unnoticed, and it is not wasted. You are helping ensure that Heritage doesn’t just exist, but thrives—now and for generations to come.
You are part of God’s “new thing.”
One Last Word from Your Pastor
Advent teaches us that God shows up in unexpected ways, asks ordinary people to trust Him, and brings salvation through obedience that feels risky.
Heritage Church is standing in that space right now—between what has been and what God is bringing to life.
So let’s be brave.
Let’s pour new wine.
Let’s embrace holy disruption.
Let’s give generously and trust boldly.
Because the world still needs the light of Christ.
And Advent reminds us—it’s our job to help prepare the way.

All Is Calm?
(Not Even Close.)
Christmas is supposed to be peaceful…
But what if your life feels anything but calm?
This Sunday at Heritage Church, Pastor John will share a powerful, hope-filled message about finding real peace when life refuses to behave. Not the kind of peace that depends on perfect circumstances—but the kind that holds you steady when the storms hit.
If you’re carrying stress, anxiety, disappointment, or questions you can’t quite put into words, this message is for you.
God has laid something special on Pastor John’s heart, and you won’t want to miss it.
One service only — Sunday at 10:30 AM
Heritage Church
Bring a friend. Bring your questions. Bring your whole, imperfect self.
Come discover why peace isn’t about calm seas—it’s about who’s with you in the boat.
We can’t wait to worship with you.

Special Thanks goes to Rick and Sally Luker for giving a Year-End Giving Gift in Memory of
Heritage Congregational Notice
This Sunday, as part of our worship service, we will hold a very brief congregational meeting to elect Elders Ann Peterson and Jim Lower, and Deacon Betty Brown to serve in the Class of 2028.
Thank you for your continued prayerful participation in the life and leadership of our church.
THANK YOU
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who generously gave to Heritage Church through year-end giving. Your faithfulness and support are deeply appreciated.
We would also like to extend special thanks to Sally and Rick Luker, who offered their year-end gift in loving memory of Sally’s sister, Mary H. Vonderheidt. Their generosity and tribute are a meaningful blessing to our church family.
Vision + Faith Forward
Mark your calendars—December 28 marks a new beginning for our worship life at Heritage Church.
Starting that day, our Traditional, Choir-led Service will take place at 9:00 AM, followed by our Contemporary, Band-led Service at 11:00 AM.
This change represents more than new service times—it’s a bold step of faith.
As we follow God’s leading, we believe He is guiding us into a season of growth, renewed energy, and expanded opportunities to worship and reach others.
Every new beginning requires trust, and we’re confident God will use this step to draw hearts closer to Him.
Join us as we step forward together—we can’t wait to worship with you.
UGLY SWEATER SUNDAY IS COMING FOR YOU
Break out the knit nightmares.
Unearth the blinking reindeer.
Free the sweater that should never be worn in public—because Sunday, December 28, it’s finally your moment.
Ugly Sweater Sunday is happening at BOTH worship services at Heritage Church, and we expect maximum cheer, minimal fashion sense, and absolutely zero shame.
Wear it loud. Wear it proud.
Sequins? Yes.
Jingle bells? Obviously.
Lights that may or may not violate fire code? …Let’s talk later.
Whether you’re worshiping at 9:00 AM or 11:00 AM, come ready to celebrate the season with joy, laughter, and some truly questionable wardrobe choices.
Because nothing says Christmas at Heritage like praising Jesus while dressed like a festive disaster.
See you Sunday—ugly sweaters strongly encouraged.
