Don’t Be a Bystander in Your Own Life
James 1:22 (NLT) — “But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.”
“Front Row Seats to Nowhere”
Have you ever felt like you’re scrolling through life instead of living it?
Watching everyone else take their shot, find their calling, fall in love, get free, start fresh—while you just whisper, “Good for them.”
We’re living in an age of spectator spirituality.
We “like” sermons, “share” verses, and “save” quotes, yet never actually do what they say.
We’ve traded discipleship for digital applause.
But hear this truth: you weren’t redeemed to just watch what God can do.
You were reborn to walk in what God can do through you.
Jesus didn’t die for you to stand on the sidelines.
You’re not a fan in the bleachers—you’re called to get in the game.
Faith That Doesn’t Move You… Doesn’t Matter
James doesn’t sugarcoat it. He basically says, “If your faith never leaves the bleachers, it’s not faith—it’s fantasy.”
You can’t “amen” your way into action.
Faith isn’t proven by what you post—it’s proven by what you practice.
You can’t Netflix your calling and expect a breakthrough in the credits.
Faith is not a hobby; it’s a hustle.
It’s motion with conviction.
Because faith that just sits still is faith that stays silent.
Stop waiting for God to move—He’s waiting for you to take the first step.
Faith moves when you do.
God Works Through You, Not Instead of You
God doesn’t do for you what He’s called you to do with Him.
Moses still had to lift the staff.
David still had to sling the stone.
Peter still had to step out of the boat.
They didn’t wait for comfort—they moved in obedience.
And the miracle didn’t happen until their feet hit the faith zone.
If you’re waiting until it feels safe to step out, you’ll die holding a life jacket in the desert.
Obedience is heaven’s ignition key—the power starts when you move.
Comfort Is the Enemy of Calling
You can’t live in cruise control and expect kingdom impact.
The problem isn’t that the Church lost power; it’s that too many of us are charging our phones more than our faith.
We’ve got too many commentators and not enough combatants.
Too many reviewers of the Word and not enough doers of it.
You can’t post your purpose into existence—you’ve got to pursue it.
God isn’t looking for polished spectators; He’s recruiting sweaty disciples.
He’s not calling you to a platform—He’s calling you to participation.
You Have Permission to Participate
Maybe life hit you so hard that you started watching instead of walking.
Maybe disappointment made you a bystander to your own destiny.
But God is still writing your story, and He wants the pen back.
“The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you.” (Romans 8:11)
That means resurrection isn’t just an event—it’s an engine living inside you.
The same power that rolled away stones can roll away your excuses.
Stop asking for permission.
You already have the Holy Spirit’s authorization to act.
Stop waiting for a sign when God already gave you a Savior.
Get back in the story. Step into the arena. Heaven’s cheering section is waiting for you to move.
Get in the Game
This week—don’t just watch your own life. Own it.
Pray like it matters.
Move like it’s possible.
Speak life.
Forgive deeply.
Serve faithfully.
Love recklessly.
You were made for more than the sidelines.
Jesus didn’t rise from the grave so you could sit in the stands.
He rose so you could walk in victory.
Don’t just believe it. Be it. Do it. Live it.
The world doesn’t need another sermon to scroll past—it needs believers who get off the screen and into the story.
A Place For Every Heart,
Rev. John Roberts

These are needed words of reminder focused on what we need to do! Doing, getting out of the bleachers and actively participating, is sometimes hard. But it is necessary and worth taking action!
