OWN WHAT’S BEEN OWNING YOU
(John 5 – The Man at the Pool of Bethesda)
Message Outline for the Sunday Sermon:
When God Breaks Your IKEA
Anybody ever try to build IKEA furniture and almost lose your salvation halfway through? That was me — sweating, angry, blaming the Swedish — until my wife hit me with that holy two-by-four: “Just because you were raised that way doesn’t mean you have to stay that way.”
God’s not trying to assemble your old life; He’s trying to resurrect a new one.
You can’t be healed if you’re still defending your history.
Jesus Sees What You’ve Settled For
“Jesus learned he had been in this condition a long time.”
Thirty-eight years — that’s not a moment, that’s a mindset.
You’ve been lying next to your miracle so long you started calling it home.
Jesus is still looking for the one who’s tired of trying.
Turn to your neighbor and say, “It’s been long enough!”
Not Everyone Who’s Down Wants to Get Up
Some people don’t want healing; they want attention.
We’ve been decorating our dysfunction — new curtains, same cage.
Some of us even bought matching pillows for our pity parties.
You can’t heal what you keep defending.
Stop decorating what God is trying to demolish.
You Can’t Heal Until You’re Honest
We’re great at describing our pain — but Jesus didn’t ask for your essay; He asked for your yes.
Healing begins where honesty begins.
If you can be real, God can be redemptive.
When you finally say, “I’m done pretending,” that’s when the miracle starts moving.
Jesus Brings the Water to the Wounded
The man couldn’t reach the water, so the Living Water reached him.
You think you’re waiting for a move of God — but God’s waiting for a move from you.
If you keep waiting for the stars to align, you’ll miss the Savior who already showed up.
The miracle isn’t in the water — it’s in the Word.
When Jesus says “Get up, pick up your mat, and walk,” obedience is what activates the miracle.
The Mat Is the Message
The thing that used to carry you — you’re now carrying it.
Don’t hide what God healed.
Your mat is your ministry.
Your struggle is your sermon.
Your story is someone else’s starting point.
If you’re carrying your mat, you’re walking in proof that Jesus still changes people.
Own what’s been owning you.
Time to Break Up with Your Old Normal
You can’t be healed and still hang out at the same pool.
Deliverance doesn’t always look like a rescue — sometimes it looks like responsibility.
God can change your direction in an instant, but your transformation takes time.
If you want to change, God’s not waiting for perfect — He’s waiting for permission.
Jesus is in the room right now, asking the same question:
“Do you want to be made well?”
Then get up. Pick up that mat. Walk.
Because today — you’re owning what’s been owning you.
