The Woman Who Came For Water and Got Wrecked!
Heritage Happenings! Your Friday Weekly Newsletter!
She wasn’t coming for a miracle.
She was coming for maintenance.
Middle of the day, sun frying her scalp, feet dusty, shame heavier than the jar on her shoulder.
This was her rhythm: draw, drink, dry out, repeat.
You can almost hear her muttering, “Same well, different day.”
It is what it is, right? Ughh.
Then Jesus shows up — sitting where He shouldn’t be, talking to someone He shouldn’t talk to, asking for water He doesn’t need. Classic Jesus move.
He looks at her like He knows her browser history and says,
“If you knew who was talking to you, you’d be asking Me for a drink.”
And she’s like, “Sir, you don’t even have a bucket.”
Translation: “Nice try, holy man, but you don’t have the tools.”
But Jesus smiles because that’s the point.
He is the well.
When You Finally Meet the Source, You Stop Worshiping the Container
The woman came clutching a bucket like it was a security blanket.
Buckets mean control.
Buckets mean, I can handle it. I’ll draw just enough to get me through.
But control is exhausting. It leaks. It’s the illusion of spiritual hydration.
Then Living Water speaks — and she realizes she doesn’t need a refill, she needs a resurrection.
That’s why she drops the jar.
Read it again: she left the bucket behind.
Because once you meet the Source, you stop obsessing over the system.
You don’t need to keep dragging around a bucket when the River of Life just set up shop inside you.
Grace doesn’t trickle by the quart — it floods.
You don’t sip grace; you drown in it and come up new.
The Moment You Drop the Bucket, You Drop the Burden
She didn’t leave empty-handed — she left overflowing.
The jar she abandoned represented everything she used to depend on:
– Her reputation strategy.
– Her “I’m fine, really” façade.
– Her five-ex-husbands-and-counting theology of “maybe next time.”
She came thirsty and left drenched.
She came hiding and left preaching.
She came for a refill and left reborn.
Meanwhile, we’re still dragging around emotional Home Depot buckets labeled:
“People’s approval,”
“Likes and follows,”
“Perfectionism,”
“Productivity,”
and “Control issues that could power a small country.”
We keep saying, “I trust Jesus,” but we still check the bucket every five minutes to make sure it’s not cracked.
The same hands that used to cling to control were designed to carry testimony.
The First Evangelist Was the Town Outcast
Isn’t it just like God to use her?
Not a preacher. Not a prophet.
A woman who couldn’t even make it to brunch with the other ladies.
The same mouth that whispered gossip became a megaphone for grace.
The same story that used to shame her became the sermon that saved her city.
She ran back yelling,
“Come see a man who told me everything I ever did!”
Translation: “Y’all, He aired out my laundry and I’m still alive!”
She wasn’t ashamed anymore — she was amazed.
Because once you’ve met Truth Himself, you stop running from your story; you start running with it.
Buckets Are for Survivors. Rivers Are for the Redeemed.
Buckets are cute. They’re measurable. Manageable.
You can say, “I’ll take two scoops of joy, one ladle of peace, maybe a half gallon of purpose.”
But rivers?
Rivers don’t care about your schedule.
Rivers flood your false control and sweep away your spreadsheets of sanctification.
Jesus didn’t offer her a refill. He offered her a residence.
“Whoever believes in Me, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” (John 7:38)
That means you’re not supposed to come to the well anymore —
you become the well.
When grace fills you, you turn into what once filled you.
You stop carrying water and start creating overflow.
When You Drop the Bucket, You Pick Up Boldness
She used to avoid town at noon.
Now she’s sprinting back into it like it’s her stage.
The same people who whispered about her are now hearing her preach.
That’s what happens when shame gets evicted — evangelism moves in.
You don’t need a degree. You just need a scar that’s been kissed by grace.
She didn’t need theology class; she needed a testimony.
And friend — so do you.
You can’t preach resurrection if you’re still hauling around your bucket of control.
You can’t run free if you’re still lugging what used to leak.
Drop it. Leave it. Run.
What bucket have you been carrying that doesn’t hold water anymore?
What are you still trying to fill that Jesus already flooded?
Where is God calling you back — not to hide, but to heal others with your story?
Prayer
Lord, I’ve been lugging buckets You never asked me to.
Buckets of proving, performing, pretending.
But You didn’t save me to survive — You saved me to overflow.
Today, I drop what’s empty and drink what’s eternal.
Flood me with living water until I become what I’ve been chasing.
Then send me running — bold, barefoot, bucket-free —
shouting to the world,
“Come see a man who told me everything I ever did… and loved me anyway.”
The Best Is Yet to Flow,
Rev. John Roberts’

Let’s keep building something beautiful for His glory—one update, one story, and one life at a time
Grow Your Giving, Grow Your Life
There’s something powerful that happens when you stop living just for yourself. The moment you start giving—of your time, your resources, your heart—you step into the flow of God’s purpose. Because generosity doesn’t just bless others; it enlarges you.
Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). That word blessed means “happy, fulfilled, and favored.” In other words, the secret to a full life isn’t getting more—it’s giving more.
When you live for something beyond yourself, you connect to something eternal.
You stop measuring your life by what you accumulate and start measuring it by what you contribute.
You begin to realize that your giving fuels God’s mission and builds a legacy that outlives you.
If Heritage is going to grow, our giving must grow too.
Not because God needs our money—but because He’s inviting us to trust Him at a deeper level.
To give boldly, cheerfully, and faithfully, believing that every seed planted today becomes part of tomorrow’s harvest.
So grow your giving today—and watch how God grows you in the process.
Prayer: Lord, help me live for something beyond myself. Grow my heart, grow my faith, and grow my generosity, so that Your kingdom can flourish through me. Amen

Prayer Concerns from the Deacons and our Amazing Choir Director, Nancy:
Carol is back in the hospital and is seriously ill. Lord, rest your hand on the drs who are treating her and bring her back to us. Amen
....Jan, is reeling from the effects of surgery. Every day her strength is returning. Continue to give her that desire to get up and move.
.....Now Jean, who has fallen, let the rest of her body increase her stamina to continue to care for Jan.
........Beverly, Marguerite’s friend, continue to give her the desire to fight the dread disease of cancer. We all want to “shoot” the darn disease!!!
......Brock, Heather’s neighbor, the ALS is spreading so quickly. Actually, I have no words, other than just bless his family and let them have their father, their husband, their family as long as possible on this earth.
......Neena’s sister who has been diagnosed with a disease that I cannot even spell, much less pronounce, that has produced high levels of growth hormones and a tumor on the pituitary. May the treatment be determined quickly and successfully.
.....All of those affected by the horrible plane crash in Kentucky, just find that “green pasture” in their soul as they cope with the devastation of what has happened.
....Mikaela at Texas State, who witnessed horrific shooting at an outside party. May her soul and heart be comforted as she comes to term with this traumatizing event.
.....Suzanne, Neena’s daughter who probably has pneumonia. This is just a tough illness to get over. Prayers for recovery and prayers for rest as well.
.......Mindy’s mom’s friend, who is now with Mindy’s mom in her New Home. One can only laugh as we know these two friends are getting “caught up” in their conversations.
,......May Anna’s plumbing problems be fixed.....today, if possible. She has been without water for 2 days now.
......Now some praises for the opportunities......Audrey, Faith and Josue are singing in the prestigious Region Choir this Saturday.
Adrian, who continues to receive accolades for his voice, has an audition next week. We are grateful that he gets to share his talent.
......Grateful for our Heritage bell ringers: Anna, Ann, Leslie, Suzanne. Not only do they sightread very well, but their rehearsals are also so positive and just fun!!!
